A Present and A Phone

I've started my "Wedding Cake Decoration" course since last week. As there wasn't much done in class, I didn't blog about it. We're told to think of a design for our wedding cake, and that will be our project throughout the duration of the class. As we moved along, we will make wired flowers, piped laces and many other sugar paste modelling. It does sound fun though. Stay "blogged" to see my final showpiece!

Back to my bakings today. I volunteered to make two cakes for my colleague's birthday celebration tomorrow. I baked the cake the day before, frost it, crumb coat it and left it in the fridge overnight. It was exactly what I learnt from Anna's workshop. Seriously, some things we learn, we don't practice, we forget. Other stuff we learn, we practice, and we improved. I must say, hands-on experience works best for me.

I've decided to use her recipe once again for the base cake. I guess it's one of the best recipe I like so far - simple ingredients, easy method and fall-in-love taste. I made two 5" square cakes. One with a mobile phone, the other is a present. The mobile phone was meant for a birthday cum farewell to our boss, while the present is for a birthday lady, who is very attentive to all our needs. For wonderful people like them, they deserved something good too. Well, this is the best I can come up with, considering it was only my 2nd own attempt at using fondant. It's a combination of what I learnt from Anna's and my cake decoration course. I know I still have a lot of room for improvements, and it's a long way to go...

Hi Grace,
Thanks. They're not wedding cakes...heehee. They are more of a birthday cake. Wedding cakes will be bigger, and has to be at least 2-tiers? I like the present one too! :)
