Mother's Day Workshop

Happy Mother's Day!

@@=,`==

I attended a Mother's Day Workshop at BITC on Friday afternoon. Initially I didn't want to sign up for this course, however, my coursemates persuaded me to attend because as an existing BITC student, we get about 50% off. What a great deal right? So it was almost full day at BITC for me on Friday.

A quick introduction to my workshop.
1. On my way to BITC, i spotted a tree at Public Utilities with lots of mangoes!
2. Prima, a place where many are familar with. I like their flour, the restaurant, and now, their workshops!
3. Weighing out the ingredients.
4. Ingredients & instructions on the white board.
5. Recipe sheet.
6. Our instructor, Mr Teo, explaning the instructions from the white board.

7. Beating our cake batter.
8. While waiting for our cakes to be baked, we made our own marzipan roses & leaves. We only have time for 2-3 per person.
9. Creaming the butter cream.
10. Our nicely baked chocolate cake.
11. Mr Teo showing us how to slice the cake into two.
12. Applying butter cream on half a layer.
13. Shaping the cake to look like a basket.

14. My nicely sliced cake...by Mr Teo. Heehee...
15. Frosting the sides of the cake.
16. Piping some lines to form the basket.
17. My piped "basket".
18. Put some marzipan rose on top.
19. Finished my "Basket of Roses" with chocolate coated strawberries.

20. As part of the bonus for this workshop, a demo of chocolate praline making was conducted.
21. Dark compound chocs were melted and filled up, banged on the table to get rid of air bubbles.
22. White compound choc with added red to give pink colour.
23. Fill up the chocolate mould.
24. After it has chilled, bang it to release the chocolates.
25. A box of chocolate praline was given to all participants.

Err, the nozzle was provided by them, it's like a star nozzle. You can use any star nozzle to make the basket.

Hi Adeline,
Try to go for recipes with egg whites, or less egg yolks. Baking without eggs or butter is not baking lah! Maybe you bake lesser but used the original recipe. If baked more, must reduce this or that. Then the outcome not as nice already. Ask him to exercise more lah...you go exercise with him!! :p
